“I am fundraising to help the continued work that still needs doing at the Kitty & Somita school. There are many projects that need doing so fundraising is always needed.

1.  With the help of yours and other generous donations, the original classroom blocks were rebuilt and look amazing. There is some tiling that still needs to be done and money needed to finish this.

2.  They were also generously donated lots of school classroom equipment, desks, chairs etc from within the UK, these will be distributed between both schools. But they need to raise the money to ship this to the Gambia at a cost of £1200.

3.  The next project at Somita is to build a brick fire pit for burning rubbish.  Rubbish is a huge problem in The Gambia, they don’t have the facilities we do but they are working very hard to get this under control. Already banning plastic, carrier bags, drink bottle etc.  We constructed one at Kitty and it has made a big difference in the containment of rubbish, They also use the ashes as fertiliser in the gardens.

This fundraiser will go towards helping some of these outstanding projects that need finishing.

The roofs have now been fixed and they have done so much work since then, due to the amazing work Sandy and the team do and the many people who fundraise and help support them, but there is always more that needs doing. To find out more please visit their Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/goalforthegambia and website http://www.goalforthegambia.co.uk/

They do not fundraise for administration costs, instead relying on Gift Aid to fund these essential overheads. You can read more about them and the work they do by visiting their website http://www.goalforthegambia.co.uk/

As a responsible and transparent charity, GOAL for the Gambia politely remind donors that because this is a raffle, the charity are unable to claim Gift Aid on your donation.

Meanwhile every donation is very much appreciated, no matter how little it may seem to you, it goes a long way in The Gambia.

Whenever financially possible, I try and support charities and fundraisers , including Haven house, Children in need and a few others. I have always wanted to support a specific project, one where I can see what's being done and feel part of and could afford.

Back in 2015 I went The gambia for a holiday where we visited a local school and a family compound amongst other places. I fell in love with the people and the country and still get emotional on each visit, as I see children run out to wave as we drive past, see them playing with simple things found lying around, old tyres, buckets to name a few, perhaps a water bottle if they are lucky to get hold of one, they have little or in many cases, no toys, yet still they smile.

I quickly learned that they are so many children that don't go to school, mostly due to having no money to pay the fees. From that  moment I decided I wanted to sponsor a child, I wanted to help make a difference to someones life.   I had heard of people doing this in many countries and started to look into the cost of it.

When I returned home I spent a long time researching for the right Charity and all my searches came back to one charity, Goal for The Gambia. We got in touch with Sandy who on our next visit took us out for the day to show us the work they do.

Amongst all the emotions we felt throughout that day, one of the things that struck, was the transparency of how the charity is run and being able to see that for ourselves first hand. 100% of every donation goes where it is supposed to. HOW YOU CAN HELP

Online Shopping & Donate For Free!

Online shopping is a great way to raise money for them just by shopping online as you would ordinarily do and you don’t pay anything extra.

1. Let's say you want to buy a pair of shoes from John Lewis. Instead of going to johnlewis.com directly, you first go to easyfundraising.org.uk.

2 .From the easyfundraising website, click through to John Lewis to make your purchase. This tells John Lewis you came from easyfundraising. The price of the shoes is exactly the same.

3. After you buy your shoes, John Lewis will give you a cash reward that you can turn into a donation for your good cause. easyfundraising collect this and send it on to them at no extra cost.

If you'd like to make a general donation, just click here and this will direct you to their page.

There is an easy to follow step by step guide which will lead you through the process of making a donation. Please feel free to leave a message when directed in the comments box, and tell us if anything you specifically want to support or a cause you lean towards in relation to one of our projects.

Please don't forget to claim Gift Aid if you can.

There is so much that needs doing urgently, it's hard to choose what to aim for next. I will be visiting again shortly and will see for myself what needs doing and try and decide on the next project.

They are building a Nursery school at their project at Kitty School and it will need tiling. At Tanji School they need to repair all the classroom floors and hopefully tile there too. They also badly need desks and chairs along with the money to ship them over. When I come back I will update which project we are aiming to help first. Meanwhile every donation is very much appreciated, no matter how little it may seem to you, it goes a long way in The Gambia.

THANK YOU

I can't thank everyone enough for the generosity in helping to raise money on my last fundraiser. All your donations went towards buying the batteries to get the solar up and running in the Somita clinic. It was such a fantastic achievement and I felt so proud that we all helped get it there, so a big thank you to you all.

Sandy who runs the charity, along with the people of the village have decided that any money raised will go towards fixing the solar system at the clinic.

"The electricity supply is dreadful here at the moment and Njagga and the rest of the staff are often delivering babies or seeing to sick people by torchlight! We cannot keep the meds that need to be refrigerated cold, the fans cannot be used to make life more comfortable for staff and patients. We should not expect health workers to work in such conditions. We have costed it up and to get it up and running with new batteries, inverter and the other items need will cost in the region of £800. So far Stephie has raised over half of that,. can you help?
Thank you xx"
